III. Introduction of Feature Programs

a. Chinese Language Program

Courses include Chinese Character, Intensive Reading, Spoken Chinese, Listening Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, Writing and Overview of China and the like, with the goal of training and improving students’ ability of using Chinese language. Elementary classes, intermediate classes and advanced classes with 15 students for each are set up. Students need to take aChinese language test for placement of the class. In addition, many activities are organized for international students, such as visiting places of interest and participating in competitions. The Course-completion Certificate of CUPES will be granted to those who have finished study and got qualified grades.

b. Martial Arts Program

Courses contain Chinese Boxing, Weapon Exercises, Tai Chi, Sanda and Martial Arts Comprehensive Theory, etc. At the end of the study, CUPES will issue certificates to students and grade the students’ martial arts levels.

c. TCM Sports Health Care Program

The main courses are as follows:
1).“Yijinjing”and health care with tendons and meridians

2). “Baduanjin”and TCM Daoyin for life and health cultivation

3). “Wuqinxi”and health care for TCM internal organs

4). TCM massage and acupuncture for exercise, etc.

Introduction

Located in Haidian University Park of Beijing, Capital University of Physical Education and Sports (CUPES)is next to Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park in the west and next to Jimenyanshu scenic area in the east. It was founded in 1956, as the sole university focusing on sports science under the Beijing Municipal Government as well asone of the sports universities which can take in international students with Chinese Government Scholarship. The university also owns Martial Arts Training and Research Center of Hanban / Confucius Institute.

There are currently more than 5,000 students in CUPES, primarily forming multi-layer, multi-specification and multi-mode pattern in running schools for the degree education of doctor, master and bachelor, and adult education, international students’ education, with opening and advanced concepts in running schools. The university owns top-ranking conditions of teaching, training and scientific research, and gymnastic building facilities. During the period of 2008 Olympic Games, CUPES took the mission of providing training ground for 5 Olympic / Paralympic Games sports of football, gymnastics, water polo, judo and taekwondo.

CUPES is quite active in cooperation and exchange with foreign countries. At present, it has established international cooperation relationships with more than 20 universities and research institutes from America, UK, Korea, Japan, Finland, Australia, Russia, New Zealand, Belgium, Greece, etc. By exchanging students and visiting scholars, the university intends to build up a higher-level cooperation network with foreign universities based on education and research cooperation. Currently, there are over 50 long-term international students in CUPES. Besides, more than one hundred short-term international students from all over the world are received annually.

Services

1. Accommodation Services:
There is the International Student Apartment especially for international students, with internet access,an air conditioning, a telephone, a TV, a desk, a closet, a private bathroom in all rooms. Single rooms and double rooms are provided, with a communal kitchen, laundry facilities and an activity room. Besides, the rooms are cleaned every day and the sheet and quilt cover are changed for new regularly.In addition, international students can also live off campus, but must go to the local police station to register within 24 hours after arrival.

2. Meal Services:
A student cafeteria, Chinese restaurants, western restaurants, fast-food restaurants and Islamic (Muslim) restaurants are setinside and outside CUPES to meet with students’ different needs.
