Applicant Eligibility
Non-Chinese citizen in good health.
Bachelor’s degree students: High school graduate or above with valid foreign passport, under 35 years.
Master’s degree students: Bachelor’s degree holder with valid foreign passport, under 45 years.
Doctoral degree students: Master’s degree holder with valid foreign passport, under 50 years.
HSK 4 certificate with the score of or above 180.
Note: Applicants who fail to meet the requirement about Chinese proficiency should take one year Chinese course before degree studies.
Documents Required
Application Form to Southwest University (in duplicate, including one photocopy).
The copy of highest diploma and transcript. Such documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized copies in Chinese or English.
Photocopy of HSK 4 certificate.
Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
Study or research plan: in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words).
A CD of the applicant’s works. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works; applicants for fine arts are requested to submit a CD of their own works (including two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).
Published academic papers or other academic achievements (original or photocopy, if any).
Two recent photos (white background, in passport size). Please write down the applicant’s name and major at the back of the photo.
Photocopy of the applicant’s passport.
Two photocopies of Physical Examination Record for Foreigner (Applicants keep the original form for study visa application).
Application & Recruitment Procedures
Download the Application Form to Southwest University and Physical Examination Record for Foreigner from downloading center of the website http://gjxy.swu.edu.cn, or contact the International Students Admission Office, Southwest University for such documents (in duplicate, including one photocopy).
Fill in the Application Form to Southwest University and do physical check-up at the local public hospital as requested. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Physical Examination Record for Foreigner. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration as they plan to take the medical examination.
Prepare the other application documents requested and send the full package of application documents to the International Students Admission Office of Southwest University.
Southwest University organizes expert panel to review application documents and make the final selection.
Southwest University announces the name list of the successful applicants on the website of http://gjxy.swu.edu.cn, and notifies them by emails.
Successful applicants remit application fee CNY 400 to the bank account of Southwest University (refer to the bank account information).
Southwest University posts successful applicants Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW202) at about the end of June each year.
Note: The application documents will NOT be returned regardless of the result of application.
Application Date Window
Beginning date for application: January 1 every year.
Application deadline: Before June 15 every year, application documents should be submitted to the International Students Admission Office of Southwest University (date is subject to the local mail stamp chop in terms of airmail).

Apply for study visa at the China Embassy or Consulate in applicant’s country with Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202) and the original Physical Examination Record for Foreigner.
Note: The application documents shall NOT be returned regardless of the application result.
