Overview

Founded in 1952, China University of Geosciences Wuhan is a National Key University with a complete multidisciplinary educational system with its main focus on earth sciences, but also including science, engineering, literature, management, economics and arts programs. The university is located in the heart of Wuhan East Lake National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone and covers a total area of more than 2,700 mu(nearly 180 hectares). The university is well known as a cradle of talent for Chinese Earth Science and Resource Environment fields. It has a reputation as a home of quality education, scientific research with an academic atmosphere, as well as having beautiful grounds. Moreover, it is a principal member of the C2 Science and Education Strategic Alliance and International University Consortium on Earth Science. The University has integrated training system of undergraduate, master, and doctor, post-doctorate,and owns modern academic buildings, a library, student apartments and advanced scientific research facilities, including 2 State Key laboratories, 2 national-local joint engineering laboratories, 15 Provincial Key laboratories and 3 “111” innovation and talent training bases. China University of Geosciences Wuhan is composed of 19 faculties, offering 60 undergraduate programs, 38 first-level discipline master programs, 13 first-level doctoral programs and 13 postdoctoral mobile research stations. The faculty of CUG totals about 3,195 members, which include 9 Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science, 183 doctoral supervisors, 420 professors, 497 associate professors, 5 foreign academicians from the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and 5 foreign academicians from the Russian Academy of Engineering. There are currently 25,000 registered full-time students including 6,600 master’s degree and doctoral candidates, 18,000 undergraduates and over 800 international students.

At the same time, CUG is the host institute of Chinese Government Scholarship students. CUG has recruited international students since 1980’s. For over 30 years it has cultivated more than 1500 international students of various majors from more than 96 countries and districts for bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or doctoral degree,and each year several hundreds of international students visit our campus as short-term or exchanging students. Besides, CUG has already set up various items of scholarship programs such as the “distinguished Scholarship for overseas students”, with the aim to encouraging those international students who excel both at study and disposition, sponsoring their academic pursuit in China.
