Faculty of Engineering
Among 254 staffs of the Engineering Faculty, there are 11 full professors, 74 a professors, 11 senior engineers, 16 adjunct graduate student advisors, 4 “Distinguished Overseas Professors”. Within the faculty there are 1 professor listed in the national “Thousand Talent Plan”, 3 Shanghai Professors of Special Appointment (Eastern Scholars), 1 winner of the “Eastern Scholar Tracking Program”, 1 New Century Excellent Talent by the Ministry of Education, 3 Shanghai Shuguang Scholars, 2 Pujiang Scholars, 2 “PU JIANG” scholars, 2 Jinqiao Professors Special Appointment, and 9 Chenguang scholar and Yangfan scholars.
2. Program and Course Development
Faculty of Engineering advocates rigorous scholarship research, university industry collaboration, trains application oriented talents with both knowledge and skills, deepens program development, forges quality courses, and emphasizes connotation strengthening.
Faculty of Engineering currently has 1 Experimental Reform Undergraduate Program selected by Ministry of Education (Mechanical and Electronic Engineering), 1 feature programs by Ministry of Education (Mechanical Engineering and Automation), 2 programs listed in Excellent Engineer Training Plan by Ministry of Education (Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Computer Science And Technology), 5 Education Highlands by Shanghai (Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering And Automation, Automatic Engineering Training Center, Software Engineering, Computer Science and Technology), 8 programs listed in the Shanghai 085 Connotation Strengthening Plan (Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Automation, Environment Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Industrial Engineering), and 5 quality courses selected by Shanghai (Hydraulic and Pneumatic Transmission, Interchangeability and Measurement Technology Practice, Principles of Automatic Control, Foundation and Application of the Microcontroller, Video Editing and Synthesis). In recent 3 years, 9 courses are being cultivated by Shanghai Education Commission (Digital Signal and Processing, Modeling and Simulation of Production Systems, Computer Network and Communication, Embedded Systems, Mechanical Manufacturing Technology, Routing Technology, Video Editing and Synthesis, Electrical Control Technology, and Embedded Programming). And some other courses have been selected as quality courses and cultivation courses by the university.
Building on existing achievements and adhering to “all for students”, Faculty of Engineering continuously expands and deepens its academic programs, strengthens and implements its education reform, and enhances its graduates’ capability. In recent years, the faculty has successfully set up two programs, Environmental Protection Equipment Engineering and Material Shaping and Control Engineering, to the society’s demands. The faculty promotes Engineering Education and has implemented multiple training modes, such as CDIO, Excellent Engineer Training Plan, Germany’s FH mode.
3. Discipline Enhancement
Following the educational philosophy of “Profession-oriented Higher Education”, Faculty of Engineering has formed the three discipline groups, including Intelligence and Control, Computer and Information, and Material Science and Application.
School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Control Engineering builds on original disciplines such as Mechanical Manufacture and Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Machinery Design and Theory, Industrial Engineering, Management Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Detection Technology and Automatic Equipment. Intelligence and Control discipline group has been formed by integrating newly optimized disciplines including Detection Technology and Automatic Equipment, Mechanical Manufacture and Automation, Control Theory and Control Engineering, Machinery Design and Theory, and Industrial Engineering. Recently, this school has undertaken 4 research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation, 2 research projects funded by Shanghai Science and Technology Committee in the area of Intelligent Manufacturing and Advanced Materials, 10 research projects funded by industries. In the meantime, the school has published more than 60 high quality research papers and obtained more than 10 patents.
School of Computer and Information Engineering has formed Computer and Information discipline group by integrating the following disciplines including Computer Application Technology, Management Science and Engineering, Communication and Information System, Test Automation, and Software Engineering (Software Service Engineering).
School of Environmental and Materials Engineering has formed Material Science and Application discipline group by integrating the following disciplines including Materialogy, Material Science and Engineering, Electronic Products and Environmental Engineering, and focuses on the emerging strategic industries such as Energy Saving and New Materials. The school’s feature research projects include 2 funded by National 863 Program, 15 funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, more than 40 funded by Shanghai Natural Science Foundation, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission Innovation Program, and University Industry Alliance Program.
4. Cooperation between Industry, University and Research
Faculty of Engineering promotes the cooperation between industry, university and research. The faculty has established a chain-structure talent training system involving government, industry, university, students, parents and the whole society, including off-campus engineering practice base and platform, science and technology park, partnership with industry on engineering education, joint research and development project, teacher’s professional development, student’s internship, and student’s graduation project and employment. The faculty has invited engineers and technician from industry to participate in classroom teaching, curriculum design, and integrating industry project with theoretical learning.
Having reformed the exam-oriented teaching mode, faculty of Engineering focuses on developing engineering-application-oriented disciplines, emphasizes scientific research and the application of engineering technology, encourages teachers to combine scientific research with industry practice, develops the “double-certified teacher system”, and encourages students to participate in teacher’s project.
School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Control Engineering jointly established a off-campus practice base of advanced manufacturing technology with Shanghai Huida Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd.; established a joint research workstation with Shanghai Rabbit NC Machine Tool Co., Ltd.; established Shanghai Network Manufacturing and Enterprise Informatization Laboratory with Shanghai Jiao Tong University; and established China Predator SFC-MES System Product Application Development and Certification Center with Gallup Engineering Consulting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. The faculty is CNC technology partner of SIEMENS (China) and runs an application training center for the company, has established a joint laboratory with Hoffman Company in Germany.
School of Environmental and Materials Engineering has established sound partnerships with well-known companies such as Jiangsu Yueda Group, Shanghai Green Cycle Engineering Co., Ltd, Shanghai Xin Jinqiao Co., Ltd, and Shanshan Technology Corporation.
