I. Overview

Established in June 2004, the International Department of BNDS has experienced a rapid and steady development in recent years:

◇ In 2006, the International Department was granted the permission to recruit foreign students by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission and other relevant authorities.

◇ In 2007, the International Department became a test center of the HSK test.

◇ In 2008, the International Department became a Base for International Promotion of Chinese Language in Beijing.

◇ In 2009, the International Department launched the A-Level program.

◇ In 2010, the International Department launched the AP program.

After 8 years of development, the number of students enrolled in the International Department has increased from the original 6 to nearly 150, including students from 11 countries and regions. In addition, the number of full-time staff has increased from the original 3 to 100, including over 60 foreign teachers. During the last eight years, the International Department has been consistently perfecting its curricular system and enriching its international exchange programs. In the foreseeable future, through international communication and cooperation at various levels, the International Department will build up a new type of campus culture and a new model of international education that is compatible with the civilizations of the East and the West. It will encourage the students to have all-round development and strive to become a successful international school.

Types of Courses

 

To meet the needs of students as well as different levels of students’ Chinese skills, the international department offers three types of courses: Chinese language Class, High School Diploma Course and Gaokao Class. In addition, those students who have advanced level of Chinese skills and strong academic records can transfer to the National Department:

I Chinese Language Class

1、There are two levels of Chinese Language Class-- Language Class One and Language Class Two. Their different curricula are listed in the charts below;

2、Since the typical length of study in Language Class is short, Chinese courses in the Chinese Language Class are mainly one-term courses;

3、The goal of the Chinese Language Class is to develop students’ Chinese language skills to an intermediate level or above at the end of one year of study.

II High School Diploma Course

1、There are two classes in the High School Diploma Course -- Diploma Class One and Diploma Class Two. Their different curricula are listed in the charts below;

2、In order to help students to meet the requirements of different examinations and the college entrance examination, the High School Diploma Course offers various courses(except Chinese) that correspond to the courses in the National Department.

III Gaokao Class

1、There are two classes: an Arts Class and a Science Class. Their different curricula are listed in the charts below;

2、The Gaokao Class offers various courses that correspond to the courses in the National Department.

IV Transferring to the National Department

1、Junior middle school aged students (12-15 years of age), whose command of Chinese and academic scores are relatively high, upon successfully completing our language class, can apply to transfer to the junior section of the National Department (without taking the transfer exam) to further improve Chinese language skills as well as understanding of other subjects, such like mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc.

2、Senior high school aged students (16-18 years of age), whose command of Chinese and academic scores are relatively high, upon successfully completing our language class, can apply to transfer to the senior section of the National Department to further improve Chinese language skills as well as understanding of other subjects, such like mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc, or directly enter our High School Diploma Course.

Courses and Curriculum Structure

I Courses:

◆Language Courses: Basic Chinese, Chinese Speaking, Chinese Listening, Chinese Writing, Chinese Reading, HSK preparation, English, oral English.

◆ Other courses: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, an Overview of China, Traditional Chinese Culture, Art, Physical Education, Music, Computer Science, Cultural Investigation, etc.

◆ Elective courses: Photography, Calligraphy, Chess, Swimming, Fencing, Baseball, Horsemanship, Cooking, Tea Ceremony, Knitting etc.
