Living in Fuzhou

Fuzhou boasts great tourism resources such as mountains, rivers, temples, parks, ancient folk houses, rich “water resources” (rivers, sea and hot springs) and mountain-water-garden landscape.

Fuzhou has four national scenic spots: the Gushan (the Drum Mountain), the Qingyunshan Mountain, the Eighteen Creeks (Shibachongxi) and the Haitan Island of Pingtan. There are also two 4-A Class scenic spots: Fuzhou National Forest Park and the Shizushan Mountain.

All over the city dot about 150 outstanding historical sites, including 17 national cultural reserves: Shitanshan Cultural Relics; Mawei Shipping Administration Culture Relics; Gushan Cliff Inscriptions; the Sacred Hall of Hualin Temple; the Tomb of Lin Zexu; the Memorial Hall of Majiang River Naval Battle; the Black Pagoda; the Maitreya Stone Sculpture; Palace of Marshal Chen; the ancient architectures in Three Lanes & Seven Alleys and Zhuzhifang (including Shen Baozhen Residence, Lin Juemin Residence, Yan Fu Residence, the Furong Garden, the Yellow Tower, House of the Lins, House of Ouyang, House of General Sa, the Double –Plum Study, House of the Chens, and the Waterside Pavilion and Performing Stage); the Confucian Temple of Fuzhou; the Residence of Yan Fu and his tomb; Taoist Mingshanshi in the Qigan Village of Yongtai; the Sculpture of Xianyinggong in Changle; the Shengshou Pagoda in Changle; the Tablets of Lingjigong in Qingpu Village of Minqing; and the Sculpture of Qiyun Cave in Shengshui Temple of Luoyuan.

Other places of historical and cultural significance are the Cliff Inscriptions of the Gushan known as “Fuzhou’s Tablets Forest”; Hualin Temple, the oldest wooden structural architecture, the “tablet bestowed to Lord of Fujian”, one of China’s four biggest tablets giving an account of Wang Shenzhi’s life and his enlightened rule in the province; the Cliff Inscriptions of Wushan by Li Yangbing, the gem of Chinese calligraphy; the “Inside-the-Tree Tablet” in Xuefeng Temple, a miracle in wood carving and inscription; and the “Memorial Tablet” recording Zheng He’s expedition to the Western Ocean in the Ming Dynasty.
