About Xichang College

Xichang College has a history with more than 70 years, which can be traced back to its precursor of the National Xikang Polytechnics College founded in Xichang by the Engineering College of Beiyang University in 1939.

Having four landscape-styled campuses with ecological culture feature, Xichang College has become a comprehensive college with a complete range of disciplines in science, engineering, agriculture, management, literature, education, economics, and arts, offering 58 different majors to undergraduate.

The college has enrolled over 16,000 full-time students and 10,300 adult students from 19 provinces. It boasts over 1,000 full-time faculties, including 360 professors and associate professors, 450 teachers and researchers with master and doctor degree, five experts enjoying particular subsidy rewarded by the State Council, 22 experts crowned as “Top Academic Talents” by the province or the prefecture.

The college has established one national brand specialty and six provincial brand specialties, two provincial key labs for research on highland and subtropical crops, one provincial key center for Yi People’s culture study, and another five college-level research centers. The recent years have witnessed the appraisal of four provincial excellent professional teams, 16 provincial classic curriculums, six state-or-provincial-level projects on comprehensive specialty reforms, one national off-campus base for practical education, two provincial innovative projects on talent training, four provincial model center of experimental teaching, two provincial projects on practical education, 463 teaching and scientific achievements at different levels, 19 national patents, and 12 new varieties of crops.

Since 2004, with Sichuan government scholarship open, the college has admitted 60 international students coming from 12 countries including American, Australia, Canada, England, Russia, New Zealand, Swiss, Poland, Korea, Philippine and Ghana. At present, there are 13 of them studying Chinese language, Yi People’s language and other majors. Cooperative relationships have been set up with Eastern New Mexico University in U.S. and Swansea University in U. K. in terms of 2+2 dual degree program, master degree program and short-term internship in USA.
