Xi’an Technological University (XATU) is a key higher learning institute financially aided by Shaanxi Provincial Government and a university enforcing National Excellent Engineers Training Plan.
Founded in 1955, XATU has a tradition of being excellent. With 60 years development, it has grown up into a comprehensive university which focuses on engineering while supporting a broad range of liberal arts and sciences for the coordinated development of its multi-disciplinary curriculum. There are 14 faculties in XATU covering the fields of engineering, science, management, economics, law, literature, education and arts. XATU provide 55 undergraduate programs, 62 master degree programs, 3 Doctorate degree programs and 3 centers for postDoctorate research.
1200 knowledgeable professors and experienced lectures from faculties are committed to ensuring successful learning experience for every learner in XATU. 400 staff in all administrative offices provide professional service to support the academic development of the university. 20000 undergraduate students and 1600 masters and Doctorate candidates are pursuing their degrees on campus.
At present, XATU has 5 campuses, Weiyang, Jinhua, Yanta, Hongqing and Gaoling, of which Weiyang Campus, located on the idyllic shores of Weiyang Lake in Xi’an, serves as the main campus.

There are 14 teaching and research units in XATU, e.g. School of Optoelectronic Engineering, School of Mechatronic Engineering, School of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, School of Electronic Information Engineering, School of Economics and Management, School of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Architectural Engineering, School of Foreign Languages, School of Humanities, School of Science, School of Physical Education, School of Arts and Media, Industrial Training Center and Department of Political Theory Teaching and Research. Among XATU’s full-time faculty members, there are around 470 specialists who hold professor, associate professor or other equivalent academic titles, who forms 20 national and provincial level teaching teams. In XATU there are 6 national-level distinguishing programs, which are Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, Metal Material Engineering, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation, Software Engineering, Human Resources Management, Automation, and 6 province-level distinguishing programs, which are Computer Science and Technology, Human Resources Management, Automation, Optoelectronic Information Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Chinese Language and Literature. There is also a National Engineering Research Center, National-level Off-campus Practice Base for College Students, and Provincial-level Off-campus Practice Base for College Students.
XATU Women Basketball Team is among the top college basketball teams in China. Their nature is to keep excellence. They have taken glories of champion of Group A in 5th College Students Women Basketball Competition, champion of Super Bowl Cup for China College Students Women Basketball, five consecutive championships of College Students Women Basketball Competition in Shaanxi Province, champion of China University Basketball Association (Shaanxi), and have taken the third-place in National CBO Women Basketball. They even won the second place and the third place in World College Students Three-player Basketball Game hold in Serbia on behalf of China for two teams from the school took part in the competition.
XATU is one of universities which began calligraphy education quite early. Now there is bachelor’s degree program of calligraphy. Mr. LIU Zidu, a teacher in XATU, honored as First Person of Chinese Seal Character, was elected to executive director of Chinese Calligraphers Association, and Chairman of Shaanxi Calligraphers Association. Mr. Chen Zeqin was elected to Vice-chairman of Shaanxi Calligraphers Association.
XATU is situated in Xi’an, capital to 13 dynasties in Chinese history. The campus size is around 78 hectares while its campus floor space is around 600,000 square meters. At present, XATU has 5 campuses, Weiyang, Jinhua, Yanta, Hongqing and Gaoling, of which Weiyang Campus serves as the main campus. Weiyang Campus is close to the idyllic and delightful shores of Weiyang Lake, where teachers and students could have a good time with many recreation facilities for entertainment such as field survival, BBQ, seaplane, parasail, sandy beach and mongolian yurt in the north prairie style.
